Compared to the beginning of the year, the number of unemployed decreased by 7,700 in August to 38,376. The last time the number of unemployed was this low in August was in 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic.

“Compared to August last year, the overall unemployment rate decreased by 13.5%,” commented the latest data by Bigbank’s chief economist Raulis Eamets (Raulis Emets).

“The summer months are usually a period when temporary and seasonal jobs appear, so unemployment is lower than in winter. We hope that this trend of decreasing unemployment will continue into autumn, as current economic growth indicators also provide grounds for optimism,” he added.
