The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue running along the bottom of the foot from the heel to the toes. It supports the arch of the foot and helps absorb shocks while walking. When the fascia is subjected to excessive or repetitive strain, small injuries, irritation, and pain can develop. This condition is called plantar fasciitis.
