Famous writer and playwright Bonnie Greer has died

B. Greer, born in Chicago in 1948, moved to the United Kingdom in 1986. She became a well-recognized face on British television, among other things, as a participant in the discussion programs “Newsnight” and “Question Time”.

The writer was awarded the Verity Bargate Prize for the best play “Munda Negra”, and is also the author of the novels “Hanging By Her Teeth” (1994) and “Entropy” (2009).

Among her other works are the biography “Langston Hughes: The Value Of Contradiction” (2011) and the play “Marilyn And Ella” (2008) about actress Marilyn Monroe and singer Ella Fitzgerald.

In 2005, B. Greer became a member of the British Museum’s Board of Trustees, later serving as deputy chair. She was also a member of the boards of the London Film School and the Royal Opera House, and in 2022 was elected a member of the Royal Society of Literature.

Additionally, she served as the rector of Kingston University in Kingston upon Thames (London).

In 2010, for her services to the arts, B. Greer was awarded the honorary title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
