Collected data is available to residents on the „SmartEnvi“ platform.
Vilnius district municipality is one of the first municipalities in the Vilnius region to initiate an air pollution measurement project of this scale. During the project, a measurement network was created that will allow a better understanding of how air quality changes in different district elderships at different times of the year and what factors may influence pollution changes.

“The goal of this project was not only to install meters but also to make their data publicly available. This is especially important in areas where industrial or other economic activities are carried out near residential houses, and there is intensive traffic. When we have data, we can talk with facts, see changes, and solve problems if they arise,” says Robertas Duchnevičius, mayor of Vilnius district municipality.
Air quality can be monitored in every eldership
During the project implementation, an ambient air quality monitoring station was installed in Pagiriai (at the intersection of Durpių and Pagirių streets) to measure the concentration of particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10 (these are very fine particles that can penetrate deep into the respiratory tract) in the ambient air. This will allow monitoring the overall impact of individual homes, industry, and other sources on the environment. The station is equipped with measurement equipment that meets state monitoring requirements, ensuring reliable air quality data.
Indicator meters have also been installed in 22 elderships to assess the concentration of particulate matter in the air.
Air quality can be affected by various factors – traffic, individual heating, dust, construction, industrial facilities, and more. Such a measurement network provides the opportunity to see not only one specific point but also to monitor how the situation changes at different times and in different places.
The collected data can become an important basis for assessing the state of ambient air and planning pollution reduction measures.

Data – public and easily accessible
The collected data is not intended only for specialists. Residents can monitor air quality data on the „SmartEnvi“ platform. It is possible to select a specific measurement location, see the current situation, view charts, choose different periods, compare data, and export it.
This can be useful in everyday situations, for example, when planning time outdoors, sports, or walks. But no less important is that over time, the accumulated data allows seeing recurring air quality changes and better understanding how air quality differs in various parts of the district.
Almost 98 thousand euros invested in environmental quality monitoring
The total project value is almost 98 thousand euros, of which 82 thousand euros are European Union funds.
Vilnius district aims for air quality monitoring to be not only a tool for specialists but also information accessible and understandable to residents. The more data we have about the state of ambient air, the more accurately we can assess the situation, notice pollution episodes, and make decisions that help create a cleaner and healthier environment.
