At the beginning of the podcast, A. Valinskas revealed an unexpected detail and admitted that he had spent the night at Beata’s house. This fact surprised the guest of the show quite a bit.
“Beata is one of the very few Lithuanian women at whose place I have spent the night,” A. Valinskas said smiling on the podcast “Eye to Eye.”
“What? Maybe I don’t remember?” B. Nicholson expressed surprise.
The host soon explained that it happened in England: “We were going to visit our son, who was then studying in the United Kingdom. When we were about to leave, you suggested: ‘Stay the night with us.’”
How did Tomas come into your life?
Speaking about meeting her husband on the “Eye to Eye” podcast, Beata said that everything happened very naturally, as it was usual to meet people at that time.
“It happened very simply. At that time, there were no online dating apps – the only ‘app’ was friends or bars. A friend named Vilma, whom I knew from the Journalism Institute, introduced me to Tomas. She had gone to London to study for her master’s degree,” the woman recalled.
It seems that at that time all circumstances aligned favorably so that two people meant for each other could meet.
“At that time, I was working as a reporter for the show ‘Tea with Lemon’ on Baltic Television. I made a report about a pilot, and he hinted that he could help me get a slightly cheaper flight. I used this connection, bought a cheaper ticket to London, and went to visit my friend. It was she who introduced us – Vilma had previously met Tomas and his brother at a club. They lived in the same neighborhood and were just friends,” she said.
The journalist admitted that back then many people viewed relationships with foreigners skeptically, and she herself had made a promise.

“At that time, it seemed like nonsense, a foreigner… I even once said that I would definitely not marry a foreigner. But love happened – a terrible, strong infatuation. It’s very nice to fall in love in youth when you have no brakes – completely different than when you are 42. It was a completely crazy infatuation. You allow yourself everything. He loved me very much, I loved him… It was like a lightning strike. It was spring – after all, a person lives according to nature’s cycles, in spring everything blooms inside you, feelings blossom,” Beata shared her memories on the “Eye to Eye” podcast.
Although the couple was separated by a great distance, and flights back then were not as frequent and cheap as now, feelings conquered everything, and just a few months later Beata and Tomas got engaged.
“Tomas fell in love so strongly, felt that true feeling… Men also have intuition, inner guidance, and after two months he decided he wanted to propose. We met in April, he flew for the first time at the end of May or June. In July, he flew again and invited me to go to Africa to his friend’s wedding. He had already decided then that he would ask for his great-grandmother’s ring and propose. It happened in September.
Of course, I agreed and said ‘yes’ in Africa, Zambia. Now everything is so overemphasized – weddings, orders, planners, baby gender reveal parties, smoke, balloons, scripts, invitations… And us? He proposed in September, we just opened the calendar and decided: wedding in Lithuania on July 12, and on July 19 in England. That’s how simple it was,” B. Nicholson smiled.
The secret to a long marriage
When asked about the secret to a marriage lasting 24 years, Beata highlighted sincerity and taking care of oneself.
“I think the secret is very simple – people just suit each other. You have to love sincerely. The best is when both love, and for that love not to disappear, there has to be something real in it. There has to be a true feeling, not convenience, money, or calculation. Just like in a person’s life, in relationships everything is cyclical. It’s not that everything goes in a straight line, everything winds. You live, you experience… But I think it’s very important that both people in a relationship are ‘healthy.’ If you put two healthy apples next to each other, they both stay healthy longer, but if one starts to rot, it infects the other. It’s the same in marriage: a person has to take care of themselves, their fulfilled heart, nurture that true feeling, and simply want to be with that other person,” the famous woman shared on A. Valinskas’s podcast.
