According to the Russian version, on September 14, a Danish “Fennec” helicopter allegedly began approaching a corvette in neutral Baltic Sea waters and did not respond to calls to withdraw via the international communication channel. Eventually, the warship commander fired two red signal flares, after which the helicopter left the area.
The Danish military previously reported that the helicopter was conducting a planned mission to photograph a Russian frigate when the ship fired two signal flares, one of which passed at a short distance from the helicopter.
The head of the Danish Air Force, Jan Dams, noted that this posed a threat to the crew because the helicopter doors are open during photography.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the incident serious, while Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen described the actions as “completely unacceptable.”
Due to the incident, the Russian ambassador Vladimir Barbin was summoned to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, he blamed the Royal Air Force for the incident, pointing to allegedly “dangerous maneuvers” performed by the helicopter.
This is not the first similar incident involving a Russian warship in European waters. In June, the frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired signal flares and warning shots near the British private yacht Bright Future. At that time, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the ship did not respond to attempts to establish communication and approached the warship at a distance of 150 meters.
