The family members themselves spoke out after a day. According to them, their entire house and almost all the belongings inside burned down in the fire. Although the material losses are huge, the people survived the disaster.

“Yes, we are THAT family. The family that on Saturday afternoon made each of us/you think: ‘Thank God, I am healthy, together with my loved ones, and I have so much in life.’ We also think: ‘Thank God we are alive and healthy,’” wrote family member Jūratė Varneckienė in her post.

Seven adults escaped from the house

According to the woman, there were seven adults in the house during the disaster, as well as pets. All people and two dogs were saved, only the family cat could not be rescued.

The eldest son managed to run out of the basement, and the 86-year-old grandmother was carried out of the burning house by J. Varneckienė’s husband.

“And all three of them remained alive and healthy. Standing by the charred life, you realize: man, you had so much of that life, but on the other hand, you now have so much else – good people around, help, compassion, hugs,” the woman wrote.

The family thanked the Riešė community, which did not remain indifferent after the disaster and offered various assistance.

Almost all belongings burned

According to the family, the house became uninhabitable after the fire, and most of the belongings inside were destroyed.

Only a few pairs of shoes and photo albums were taken while escaping. Documents were saved after the fire was extinguished. Some of the remaining clothes were also damaged by fire, smoke, or water.

The family found a place to stay for the first few days, but the issue of longer-term housing is still being resolved.

J. Varneckienė indicated that she and her 16-year-old daughter were provided with clothes for this period by friends, but the husband and the family’s boys will still need clothes and footwear.

Account announced for support

Later, the family announced that they had decided to collect financial support in a special personal account designated for this purpose.

Those wishing to contribute to the family who lost their home and belongings in the fire can transfer support to Jūratė Varneckienė’s SEB bank account:

The family emphasizes that it is necessary to indicate in the transfer purpose field: “Support for fire victims.”
