“Summarizing the results of my activities over the past five years, including my duties as secretary general, I can confidently say that we have successfully fulfilled the main mission of the association to represent the country internationally,” said M. Balčiūnas, who resigned early, in an official statement. “The men’s basketball team achieved the best results in the last decade at the European and World Championships. The women’s team returned to the top eight in Europe. The 3×3 basketball players demonstrated historic results both at the Olympic Games and at the European and Youth World Championships. Other teams also fought successfully in international competitions.
This shows that the ideas and solutions we proposed to the basketball community worked. We have strengthened structurally, starting with league management, financing, and a growing organizational budget. We created a sustainable model for the development of our basketball for the future. I am grateful to the community members, club and league leaders, EC members, and the association’s vice presidents. I especially thank the association’s administrative staff and Secretary General Dominykas Domarkas. I am grateful for the trust given to me. Of course, everyone makes mistakes while working, and I was no exception – to err is human. In any case, I am happy to have had this experience and firmly believe that Lithuanian basketball will continue to delight fans with resounding victories. Today, I handed over my powers to EC member Remigijus Milašius. I wish him, the association, and all Lithuanian basketball the very best of success.”
