According to him, after reviewing the prosecutor’s statement in written procedure, on September 8 the court issued a criminal order, sentencing the man to a final eight-month restriction of liberty without intensive supervision.
The court ordered the person to be at home from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the sentence period, unless related to work or visiting healthcare or treatment institutions, and also not to leave the city limits of the place of residence without permission from the supervising authority.
The man can still request a trial within 14 days. If such a request is not submitted, the criminal order becomes final and its execution begins.
“The court has not yet received a request from the accused to hold a trial,” G. Janonis said on Monday.
As GayLine.lt wrote, the court issued the criminal order after a hate comment was left under the portal’s publication posted on the Facebook social network.

On April 18 last year, after a publication about the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding unmarried families and same-sex partnerships, the man posted a comment saying “FU bl….6lyk6tu,,,,,,,Pydarai lauk.., muskite pydarus”.
As noted by GayLine.lt editor Martynas Norbutas, who reported the comment to the police, disagreeing with the issues discussed in the article does not give the right to insult people because of their sexual orientation or incite violence against them.
“Freedom to express one’s opinion is not freedom to threaten or incite hatred,” M. Norbutas was quoted as saying.
Since a photo of his wedding was used to illustrate the article and M. Norbutas was quoted in the article, according to the news portal, the accused agreed to compensate 450 euros for non-pecuniary damage.
