According to the state news agency “Xinhua,” at a meeting of the bloc consisting of 11 members, Xi Jinping stated that BRICS countries must “resist violations of other countries’ sovereignty and interference in their internal affairs (and) constructively participate in resolving hotspot issues.”
The meeting in New Delhi is also attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian (Masudas Pezeškianas). A war is ongoing in the latter country’s territory, which started after the US and Israeli strikes on February 28.
“With the situation in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region constantly changing, the ongoing war there has caused serious losses to the people of the entire region,” Xi Jinping said.
In his speech, as reported by “Xinhua,” he also urged states to “respect the authority of the United Nations.”
Speaking about trade, the Chinese leader called on countries to “reject all forms of protectionism” and “support a multilateral trading system centered on the World Trade Organization.”
These comments were made less than two weeks before Xi Jinping’s planned visit to Washington, the main trade rival of Beijing.
