Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, is dependent on this region after Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz and halted oil shipments through the Gulf.

“The Houthis called us and they don’t want to fight us,” Trump told journalists during a visit to Dublin, Ireland.

“They don’t want us to take action against them,” he said.

He added that “everything will be fine and smooth” in the region.

Trump also mentioned having spoken with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whom he called his friend.

According to the US portal Axios, M. bin Salman called Trump twice on Thursday asking to carry out US strikes against the Houthis, but the American leader refused this request.

This week, the Houthis also launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure facilities.
