On Tuesday afternoon, after a plane landed from Dublin (Ireland), VSAT officers of the Vilnius border unit working at Kaunas airport had information that one of the passengers was accompanied to Lithuania by three Irish officers. The Irish handed over the Lithuanian deported for local law violations and the documents to the border guards.
During the initial check, the man repeated what was written in the documents accompanying him – he introduced himself as a 32-year-old Lithuanian citizen.
However, he failed to deceive the VSAT officers. After a detailed check and identification procedures, the border guards found that this Lithuanian, trying to hide his true identity and avoid arrest in Lithuania, deliberately provided someone else’s data. VSAT officers revealed that the deceiver is a 33-year-old Klaipėda resident, by the way, born with a different surname but changed it.
Legally, this is considered a violation of legal regulations related to the use of another person’s data and providing false information to state institutions.
VSAT officers determined why the Klaipėda resident needed such a “masquerade”.

Based on this information and receiving confirmation that the detainee is not wanted in Lithuania, the Irish officers prepared his deportation procedure.

For violating Irish laws, he is banned from entering this country until August 2029.

It is not excluded that changing the surname he had from birth was also related to covering his tracks while fleeing justice.
Informing the search initiators about the incident, the border guards locked the Klaipėda resident in a temporary detention facility and later handed him over to Kaunas police officers who arrived at the airport.
During more than eight months this year, VSAT officers detained 400 persons (335 at airports) wanted by Lithuanian and foreign law enforcement agencies for various crimes or violations. The vast majority of those detained, 372, were citizens of our country, 8 from Latvia, 5 from the United Kingdom, 3 each from Ireland, Belarus, Moldova, and Russia, and 1 each from Norway, Romania, and Turkey.
In 2025, border guards detained 798 wanted persons (583 at airports). Most of them, 698, were Lithuanian citizens. There were 37 Russian citizens, 15 from the United Kingdom, 11 each from Belarus and Latvia, 4 from Ireland, 3 each from Moldova, Sweden, and Ukraine, 2 each from Israel, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and 1 each from Belgium, Germany, Greece, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the USA.
