Judges, employees, and former colleagues of the Supreme Court of Lithuania gathered to thank a colleague for many years of work, professionalism, and collegiality. During the meeting, the judge was presented with letters of appreciation from the President of the Republic of Lithuania and the Judicial Council, recognizing his long-standing work in the Lithuanian court system.

Thanking the colleague, Dr. Danguolė Bublienė, Chairwoman of the Supreme Court of Lithuania and the Judicial Council, emphasized not only the judge’s professional experience but also his importance to the Court community. “Virgilijus Grabinskas was both a professional judge and a colleague whose many years of experience and calm, responsible approach to work were important to our Court community. I sincerely thank him for these years and wish that the new stage of life will be filled with no less meaningful work and beautiful moments,” the Court Chairwoman said to those gathered.
Reviewing his professional path, Judge V. Grabinskas noted that during his nearly four-decade career, he not only worked in different levels of the court system but was also a witness and participant in significant changes in Lithuania’s legal system.
“During 38 years of judicial work, I had to work in different periods and levels of the Lithuanian court system, be a participant in the creation and development of the independent Lithuanian state court system, see how the legal system strengthened, the people working in it improved, and court practice was formed. Looking back on the path taken, I can rejoice that today we have a mature and professional court system capable of changing, strengthening, and seeking decisions based on law and rational approach,” said Judge V. Grabinskas.

The judge’s professional path began in 1988 at the Klaipėda City District Court. Over 38 years of judicial work, he accumulated diverse professional experience at different levels of the Lithuanian court system – working at the Kaunas City District Court, the Supreme Court of Lithuania, and the Lithuanian Court of Appeal. Since 1999, the judge has continued his professional activity at the Supreme Court of Lithuania. He was also an active member of the court community and chairman of the Judges’ Honorary Court.
For many years of honest and dedicated work in the field of justice, outstanding contribution to creating, strengthening, and improving the Lithuanian legal system, fostering legal knowledge, professional competence, and the values of democracy and justice, Judge V. Grabinskas was awarded the 1st degree badge of merit “For Services to the Court System” in 2026.
