On Wednesday, Russian bloggers stated that the situation in the Lyman direction is getting worse for the Russian military, adding that Russian soldiers were forced to retreat from frontline positions in this region.

A Russian military blogger claimed that Ukrainian forces have been counterattacking in this territory for months, despite Russian military leadership reports and other war bloggers’ maps presenting an optimistic view of the situation,” analysts noted.
Moreover, military bloggers even coined a term describing the culture of lies and misinformation thriving in the Russian armed forces about the frontline situation – “Good News,” while emphasizing that such things should be “completely banned.”
Experts said that the Ukrainian armed forces recently proved they fully control Sviatohirsk (northwest of Lyman), and this happened a few days after Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that his forces had taken control of this settlement.
Even Russian military bloggers acknowledged the Ukrainians’ truth.
As stated in the report, this shows growing frustration over false statements by Russian officials about progress, especially around Lyman, and also highlights that such false reports pose operational dangers to Russian forces.
The current frontline length in the Lyman direction remains unclear due to the limited amount of publicly available evidence about the Ukrainian military’s progress during the recent counteroffensive.
“ISW’s mapping methodology underestimates the possible scale of Ukrainian victories in the current counterattacks in the Lyman direction. Additional publicly available information will likely reveal their full extent over time,” the institute’s report states.
