The United States and Iran have reached a stalemate in a six-month-long war. Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz – a vital global oil and gas transport route, while Washington is conducting a campaign to block Iranian ports and try to strangle its economy.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard earlier on Wednesday reported striking a US military base in Jordan and promised to retaliate for American strikes on Iranian oil tankers.

Tehran carried out this attack after US forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday, responding to Iran’s decision to target an American warship. This was the second such attack in less than a week.
