The Sustainable Mobility Week annually reminds us that a car is not the only option for daily trips in the city. Kaunas is steadily expanding the bicycle path network, improving connections between different city neighborhoods, renewing public transport, and creating more convenient conditions for pedestrians.

During the festive week, city residents will also be able to practically try different ways of traveling. From September 16 to 18, there will be three walking tours – to Kaunas street art spots, the night IV fort, and the Jiesia outcrop. Those wishing to ride bicycles can embark on sightseeing trips around Žaliakalnis and Aleksotas on September 19 and 20.
On September 19, there will also be an orienteering game “Public Transport Detectives in Kaunas.” Teams will solve tasks, search for different city locations, and travel between them for free by buses and trolleybuses.
Prospect – for riders
On the same evening, the main highlight of the Sustainable Mobility Week awaits in the center of Kaunas – a mass skating event. From 5 p.m., cyclists, roller skaters, scooter riders, and all city residents traveling by other micro-mobility means are invited to join the common column at Independence Square near the Cathedral.
For one evening, one of the busiest city transport arteries – King Mindaugas Avenue – will be given over to harmoniously moving city residents. The unified column will travel from Freedom Avenue through the city center streets, King Mindaugas Avenue, and the Nemunas riverbank to the Old Town pier.
“Kaunas is a green city where more and more people choose a bicycle or other micro-mobility means not only for leisure but also for daily trips. We consistently invest in the necessary infrastructure and aim to make sustainable mobility comfortable and safe. With the skating event, we want to show once again that this choice is important for Kaunas, and for one evening we give one of the busiest city streets to the riders,” says Kaunas Deputy Mayor Andrius Palionis.
Finish – at the Old Town pier
Participants of the skating event are invited to take care not only of their wheels but also of their unique attire – the best costume will be chosen upon reaching the Old Town pier.
From 6 p.m., the evening program will start right there, full of good humor and opportunities to recognize yourself in everyday situations. Five comedians with different humor styles – Tomašas Rynkėvič, Simanas Žurauskas, Markas Žukauskas, Kiril Grigoraščiuk, and Goda Ančiukaitytė – will take the stage with sharp observations, unexpected stories, and improvisations.
The Sustainable Mobility Week will conclude on September 22 with Car-Free Day. Throughout the day, travel by Kaunas buses and trolleybuses will be free of charge.
