Japanese architect views architecture as a means to help people experiencing natural disasters, conflicts, and humanitarian crises.
Shigeru Ban will visit Lithuania for the first time – he will be a guest at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH), where he will give a lecture in English titled “Balancing Architectural Works and Social Contributions.” In the lecture, the architect will share over thirty years of accumulated experience, covering both innovative architectural design and humanitarian activities.
The architect founded the non-governmental organization “Voluntary Architects’ Network” in 1995, which helps people affected by disasters. In the same year, he became a consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. For his creative and social work, the architect has received numerous international awards, including the 2014 Pritzker Architecture Prize.
Shigeru Ban is one of the most famous architects in the world: the Pompidou-Metz Center in France, the Mount Fuji World Heritage Center, the Oita Prefectural Art Museum – just a few of the many projects he has created and that have been recorded in the history of world architecture.

The lecture is organized by the VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Architecture community together with the Embassy of Japan in Lithuania. A Q&A session will follow the lecture.
The lecture will take place on September 22 at 12:00, in VILNIUS TECH T2 room 209, Trakų St. 1, Vilnius. Participation is free, but registration is requested by filling out this registration form.
