Reading the annual GCHQ lecture, A. Keast-Butler warned that “Russia is increasing its hybrid activity against the United Kingdom and Europe every day,” targeting the seabed, cyberspace, and various “types of critical infrastructure, democratic processes, supply chains, and public trust.”
“However, I want to be clear that in the face of such aggression and chaos, GCHQ, together with intelligence and defense partners, is working tirelessly to contain and reduce the Russian threat,” said the intelligence chief.

She stated that the UK also “thwarts Russian attempts to smuggle Western technologies; repels its cyberattacks and fights reckless sabotage and assassination attempts.”

In one case, incendiary bombs were placed in DHL shipments, one of which ignited in Leipzig (Germany), and another in a Birmingham warehouse, having arrived by plane from the continent.
