Unfortunately, in the fight for a place in the quarterfinals, our team lost to Italians Simone Fabbri and Jack Bernardini 1:2 (21:19, 14:21, 15:17) after a dramatic 54-minute battle.
In the match for ninth place, Lithuanians defeated Israeli representatives Benjamin Fisher and Omer Gozlan 2:1 (20:22, 21:12, 15:12) after another thriller.
In the girls’ tournament, Lithuanians Mėja Gurčiūtė and Justė Raudytė took 21st place. The Lithuanians successfully passed the qualification and took third place in the main tournament’s Group C, advancing to the knockout stage.
In the first round, M. Gurčiūtė and J. Raudytė lost to Norwegians Cathrine Hjeltnes and Tirit Skjold 0:2 (18:21, 20:22) after a tough fight. In the match for final positions, Lithuanian volleyball players lost to Turks Iram Yener and Su Simdim 1:2 (22:20, 13:21, 5:15).
On Wednesday, the European U22 beach volleyball championship will begin in Spain. Povilas Piešina and Dovydas Sinkevičius, as well as Mėja Matiukaitė and Mėja Gurčiūtė, will represent Lithuania.
