At 10:30 on Beresteiskyi Avenue in Kyiv, a funeral procession gathered, which later moved to St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. Mourning services were held there for the fallen soldier. Relatives, friends, many young people, and comrades-in-arms came to say goodbye to D. Smyrnov.

During the ceremony in Kyiv, explosions were heard – the Ukrainian capital was attacked by Russian drones. D. Smyrnov was buried in the Forest Cemetery in Kyiv.
When the large-scale Russian invasion began, D. Smyrnov was sixteen years old. He went to study in Lithuania, but after his uncle was wounded at the front, he decided to return to Ukraine. At eighteen, the young man joined the army.
D. Smyrnov led the assault group of the 2nd mechanized battalion of the 3rd separate assault brigade. Later he was wounded, and after completing rehabilitation, he returned to service in the Ukrainian military intelligence International Legion.
The call sign “Surfer” was not chosen by chance – before the war, he was professionally engaged in surfing and participated in competitions.
In July 2025, D. Smyrnov married Ukrainian defender Yeva, call sign “Junga.” She serves as an FPV drone operator in the Ukrainian National Guard brigade “Rubizh.” In a few weeks, the couple is expected to have a son – Danyjilo’s first child.
