In a small community, people quickly found out that their teacher would be replaced by a well-known politician, council member, and member of the Lithuanian Regions Party, Lijana Lekavičienė. Parents soon took issue with the education officially published in the Central Electoral Commission’s database – accounting studies at Žemaitija College and public administration at Klaipėda University. The 44-year-old politician, former public assistant to Member of Parliament Jonas Pinskus, completed these studies in 2013.

“Can anyone come to work at the school now? An accountant will teach Lithuanian? No wonder that afterwards people have to look for tutors,” complained a resident of Šilutė, who asked to remain anonymous.

Spanish language teachers have been sought for 3 years

Marius Siurplys, head of Šilutė Pamarys Progymnasium, said that the school faced a shortage of teachers after another fifth grade was added.
