As reported by the public broadcaster on Wednesday, a weekly published in Lithuania claims that in 1920 General Lucjan Żeligowski “liberated Vilnius from Lithuanian hands.”
“When we receive a report that there may be some signs of a violation related to disinformation or hate speech, the service initiates an investigation on its own initiative. It assesses the scope, whether it is within the bounds of opinion, or if it complies with the law,” said journalists’ ethics inspector Dainius Radzevičius to LRT radio.
“When violations are found, we usually require the content to be removed, and hate speech can also be a matter of criminal prosecution, but that is decided by the prosecutor’s office and law enforcement agencies,” he added.
In October 1920, just a few days after the Suwałki Agreement, which assigned Vilnius to Lithuania, L. Żeligowski’s army occupied the city.

The then Polish authorities initially tried to portray it as a rebellion, but later the interwar Polish leader Józef Piłsudski admitted that it was a coordinated action.
Having lost the historic capital Vilnius, Lithuania refused to establish diplomatic relations with Poland for almost the entire interwar period.
