Tensions between Rome and Moscow increased after Russia criticized M. Fedorov’s appointment as an advisor to the Italian Ministry of Defense, writes the publication “Il Sole 24Ore”.

Doubted whether Zacharova read Rodari’s book
“I understand that they would prefer decisions about Italy to be made by someone who listens to Moscow first,” commented Defense Minister Guido Crosetto. “But so far that is not the case, and decisions are made thinking about Rome, not Moscow, Kyiv, or Washington.”
The Italian minister responded this way to comments by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who called the Italian Ministry of Defense’s decision “extremely funny.”
“However, there is one positive aspect,” added G. Crosetto. “If she read Rodari – which I doubt – she should have understood that we do not want to end up like the mouse that ate the cats, so we need practical experience as well. But I doubt whether she – or our compatriots whom she tried to incite with her message – would be willing to accept this, because it would portray us as weak and defenseless.”
Zacharova spoke out of turn
On the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS, Moscow Foreign Ministry spokeswoman M. Zakharova described M. Fedorov’s appointment as “funny” and “worthy of Gianni Rodari’s satire.”

“If Gianni Rodari were alive,” added M. Zakharova, “I think he would write a satirical tale about this, but I am not sure it would be funnier than this true story.”
According to the Russian spokeswoman, this incident is allegedly an example of how “managers” in Kyiv turn military defeats into personal international agreements.
M. Fedorov recently announced he became an advisor to G. Crosetto and explained that his role will be to help the Italian side develop “modern warfare technologies.”
