From the very beginning of the project, the goal of the “Mazda CX-6e” developers was clear – to create a car that looks modern, progressive, and evokes emotions, while unmistakably remaining a “Mazda.” The designers aimed to push beyond established solutions and create a more modern, technologically advanced design language reflecting the character of a new generation electric vehicle.

In developing the model, the design direction “Soulful Futuristic Modern” was followed. Special attention was given to the car’s proportions, body surface shaping, and wheel design. These elements helped create the impression of a lighter, sportier car while highlighting the solid character and dynamic stance of the CX-6e.
“One of our goals was to create a sense of dynamism and vigor throughout the car. The dynamic silhouette, visually ‘flowing’ D-pillar, and carefully shaped body surfaces give the car movement and energy even when it is standing still,” says Bahram Partaw, Chief Designer at Mazda Motor Europe’s European Research and Design Center.
Close collaboration between Mazda’s design teams in Europe and Japan was crucial in developing the CX-6e. From the first sketches to the production-ready car design, ideas were continuously evaluated and refined through design reviews, creating clay and digital models. This creative process allowed harmonizing the new approach with Mazda’s long-standing design traditions.
Great attention was also paid to craftsmanship. Every line, surface, light reflection, and transition was carefully considered to achieve precision and a high-quality feel characteristic of Japanese “Takumi” craftsmanship. The aim was to create not only an aerodynamic and technologically advanced electric vehicle but also a car that conveys authenticity, warmth, and emotion through its forms and details.

Aerodynamics was important in the CX-6e design from the very early development stages, making it an integral part of the car’s shape. Aerodynamic vents integrated at the front deliberately manage airflow and direct it over the expressively shaped hood. Compact digital side mirrors also help maintain a clean, cohesive, and aerodynamic appearance.
Mazda Motor Europe Design Director Jo Stenuit comments: “The CX-6e reveals how the ‘Kodo’ design philosophy can evolve without losing its recognizability. We did not aim to change the essence of Mazda design – we sought new ways to express it through the car’s proportions, surface shaping, and aerodynamic integration. The result is a modern and advanced car that remains true to Mazda’s design philosophy.”
An important part of the CX-6e’s character is also the wheel design. The additionally offered 21-inch wheels, developed at Mazda’s European Research and Design Center in Oberursel, complement the modern character of the car and give it even more distinctiveness.
