One person died and 11 were injured in a car bomb explosion near the Colombian police station

The attack occurred just before midnight and damaged part of the police station, news agency AFP reporters from the town of Patioso near the Venezuelan border reported.

The car used in the attack was stolen and repainted to resemble a taxi, J. Belalcazar told Caracol Radio. According to the police, the device contained about 80 kg of explosives and was detonated remotely.

The explosion took place amid the ongoing largest wave of violence in Colombia in the past decade, fueled by the conflict between guerrillas and other groups fighting for control of drug trafficking.
