President G. Nausėda, as announced in his public schedule, will visit only one school on September 1st.

“The president will participate in the start of the school year celebration at the Maišiagala Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Gymnasium,” the schedule states.
Maišiagala is near Vilnius, located just about 20 kilometers from the capital. The Lithuanian school has existed as a separate educational institution here since 1992, when it separated from the then operating trilingual Maišiagala secondary school. In 1996, the school was named after the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas – the name of the ruler of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and also the name of the hillfort located in the town.
The president will arrive in Maišiagala at 9 a.m.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius has a busier schedule for September 1st. As stated, he will spend the entire half-day in different schools. The first is in his hometown Jonava, at the Justinas Vareikis Progymnasium.
Next, he will visit two Ukmergė gymnasiums – Antanas Smetona and Jonas Basanavičius, and while traveling to Vilnius at noon, the prime minister will also stop by the Maišiagala Priest Juozef Obrembskis Gymnasium in the Vilnius district.

Called a coincidence
President’s advisor Ridas Jasiulionis told 15min that the president is going to the Maišiagala Grand Duke Algirdas Gymnasium because he had promised the community to visit.
“The president will participate in the start of the school year celebration at the Maišiagala Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Gymnasium because he had promised the gymnasium that he would definitely visit it someday. Last year, a foreign visit prevented him, but this year, keeping his word, he will visit there,” the advisor said about why G. Nausėda chose this school this year.
“We knew nothing about the prime minister’s visit and did not coordinate anything,” he assured, insisting that it is just a coincidence.
