After members of the House of Representatives returned from summer vacation, the Democrat already began implementing a plan aimed at repealing the latest arrogant order by D. Trump. Her bill already has a strong name – “Hands Off Our Great Lakes Act.”

The senator’s office confirmed her plans to the news portal “CBS News Detroit,” explaining in more detail the opposition that D. Dingell publicly expressed on social media after the US leader first proposed renaming one of the Great Lakes to “America Lake.”
She told “Politico” that “people don’t understand how closely connected our two countries are.”
“And it is crazy – to call Lake Ontario ‘America Lake,'” she complained.
“The Great Lakes are a shared asset, protected together by entire generations of Americans and Canadians. Donald Trump can sign as many executive orders as he wants, but it will always be Lake Ontario,” D. Dingell declared, expressing intentions to “block President Trump’s idiotic order.”
The senator said she gathered more than 100 signatures from House Democrats on a letter to the president, urging the Trump administration to “change the diplomatic approach to our closest ally Canada and recognize the importance of US-Canada relations.”
“I grew up in a small town called St. Clair, and when I woke up every day and looked out my bedroom window, I didn’t see America. I saw Canada,” D. Dingell recounted. “We lived so close. Canada was as close to us as [the House office] is to the Capitol.”
This lake lies along the international border between the two countries, running through the US state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario.

“Now all that’s missing is the ocean”
The president signed an executive order on Thursday directing the federal government to rename Lake Ontario to “America Lake,” amid an escalating trade war with Canada.
“We have a bay and we have a lake – now all we need is an ocean. Maybe we’ll have to change the names of the Atlantic and/or Pacific Oceans,” he told reporters in the Oval Office. “Maybe we’ll change both.”
Trump’s order instructed federal agencies to change the name on US maps, documents, and databases. The “Google Maps” app has already changed the name of Lake Ontario to “America Lake” for US users, in response to the president’s executive order on the name change.
Lake Ontario has been known by this name for centuries; according to the Great Lakes Information Center, the name comes from the Iroquois word “oniatarí:io,” meaning “lake of shining waters.” This name existed long before the governments of Canada and the United States were established.
The federal executive order specifically applies to references, maps, and reports of the US federal government.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canadians will call it Lake Ontario – “then, now, and always.”
