VDU students Benas Paunksnis and Giedrius Bieliauskas completed the 2000-meter distance in the doubles final in 6 min. 32.69 sec., confidently finished in first place, and won a gold medal for the university.

In the men’s single sculls final, Geraldas Gavrilovas completed the distance in 7 min. 18.70 sec. and finished third, behind the champion from the University of Reading (United Kingdom) and the silver medalist from the University of Latvia.
These achievements meant that after the European University Games and the Old Continent Student Rowing Championships, VDU has a total of three gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. This means that VDU is now in second place on the EUSA leaderboard, only behind the University of Zagreb.
After the European University Games, VDU was in fourth place in the awards ranking. Now, having jumped two places, VDU has overtaken the Zamolski Academy (Poland), which was breathing down the leaders’ necks, and the University of Strasbourg (France), which was in third place.
Two more VDU teams participated in the European Rowing Championship. Domantas Janickas and Julius Krasauskas swam the distance in the doubles final in 6 min. 50.86 sec. and finished in sixth place.
The duo of Vilius Juška and Rokas Jakubauskas in the men’s coxless pair B final completed the distance in 7 min. 14.22 sec., finishing ahead of the Széchenyi István University from Hungary. This resulted in VDU students finishing eighth in the final ranking.
The European Student Rowing Championship is not the last appearance of VDU students in the Old Continent championships. From September 8–16, the European Student Martial Arts Championship will take place in Tirana (Albania), where VDU judo athletes will compete.
