Željko Sopičiaus’s trainees will play a total of six matches in the Conference League.
The Kaunas team will host Bergen’s “Brann” (Norway), “Riga” (Latvia), and “Freiburg” (Germany) at home, and will play away against “Brighton” (England), “Lugano” (Switzerland), and Rogozhina’s “Egnatia” (Albania).
The first match for “Kauno Žalgiris” will be on October 15, when they visit the “Premier” League club “Brighton”.
In the main stage, all 36 teams will play six matches each against different opponents, and then will be ranked in the overall table. Clubs finishing in positions 1-8 will advance directly to the round of 16, teams in positions 9-24 will compete in an additional knockout round, and teams in positions 25-36 will end their participation.
This last fate is exactly what is predicted for “Kauno Žalgiris”. The football statistical analysis site “Football Meets Data” calculated that the Kaunas team should finish 33rd among 36 teams.
According to this analysis, the Lithuanian champions should surpass three teams – “Inter Club d’Escaldes” from Andorra, “Lincoln Red Imps” from Gibraltar, and “Iberia 1999” from Georgia.
It is calculated that “Kauno Žalgiris” has an 11.5% chance of finishing among the top 24 teams and continuing to the knockout stage. The Kaunas team’s chances of reaching the round of 16 are estimated at only 2.4% probability.

Interestingly, the highest-rated Conference League team is the first opponent of “Kauno Žalgiris” – “Brighton” is given an 18.3% chance to win the tournament and a 97.5% chance to reach the knockout stage.
The second place is predicted for Bergamo’s “Atalanta” (Italy), and the third for “Monaco” (Monaco, but playing in the French league).
Other future opponents of “Kauno Žalgiris” are seen in these positions: “Freiburg” – 6th, “Brann” – 15th, “Lugano” – 17th, “Riga” – 25th, and “Egnatia” – 28th.
