The men deliberately went out by boat to fish for catfish, but did not expect the fishing to end so successfully.
While sailing on the lagoon, they noticed a huge catfish on the sonar screen. They fed it night worms and it bit. Soon began a fight between the fisherman and the catfish, which lasted about 20 minutes until the fish was successfully lifted into the boat. After measuring, it turned out that its length was 217 centimeters.
Last year Rokas managed to catch a 215-centimeter catfish, so this year’s one is bigger.
After taking a photo, the fishermen released the fish back into the lagoon.
“I have been fishing for catfish for eight years. In fact, I have seen even bigger catfish in the lagoon. They really exist. Many think that if you use a sonar, catching is very easy. In fact, it is not. It took me a whole year to learn how to use it properly,” Rokas told 15min.
The Kaunas resident who published the photo with the catch on Facebook received a great reaction. Many people asked if this catfish was really caught in Lithuania.
According to him, such large catfish in the lagoon only show that there is a sufficient nutritional base for them here.
“Many consider the catfish a parasite that feeds on other fish. But that is definitely not true. The pike is much more predatory,” the fisherman said.
He wished every fisherman to experience what it means to wrestle with a fish of this size.
Now Rokas Lukauskas is nurturing plans to become a guide for other fishermen and invite them to fish in the Kaunas lagoon.
