According to Nepalese and Chinese officials, the total number of missing persons has approached 3,000, with 691 bodies found.
Chinese officials clarified on Sunday that the death toll on their side of the border rose from seven to 16, with 546 people reported missing, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
According to CCTV, among the missing are 261 foreigners: 104 from Nepal, 49 from India, 33 from Latvia, and 18 from the USA.

“Chinese officials have informed the respective embassies and consulates of these countries in China,” CCTV quoted officials as saying.
“After numerous detailed regional investigations, on-site inspections, and individual identity verifications at the border crossing,” it was determined that there are no more foreign tourists trapped in the county most affected by the landslide, CCTV added.

Chinese officials also identified the cause of the accident on Sunday.
