Translated from Latin, “nemo” means “nobody,” and such a name fits this place perfectly.
The Nemo point is 2688 km away from the nearest land. It is also far from shipping routes, so people rarely reach not only this point but the entire surrounding ocean region.
So rarely that various space programs often drop “space debris” in this region, such as decommissioned spacecraft.
It is also interesting that at the beginning of the 20th century, seventy years before the coordinates of the Nemo point were established, the famous American horror writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft, as if foreseeing the future, placed the mythical city of Kthulhu just 300 kilometers from the Nemo point.
