In the town of Švėkšna, artist Lina Šlipavičiūtė has already created the first mosaic.
On September 6th, commemorating Jewish Culture Day in Švėkšna, a new project “Searching for the Shtetl in Švėkšna” will be presented. It aims to showcase the multicultural past and heritage of the town of Švėkšna.

The main idea of the project is to create stories about personalities using artistic expression: mosaic.
The presentation of the artistic mosaics will be attended by the authors Lina Šlipavičiūtė and Lauryna Kiškytė.

- In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many Lithuanian towns had large Jewish communities that formed an important part of local life.
- One such example is Švėkšna, where Jews created a unique cultural and religious space.
Later, during a tour of the town, participants will be introduced to the themes revealed by the project: the formation of the Jewish community in Švėkšna, emigration, the period of trade and prosperity between the wars, the life and education of Jewish youth, and the community’s religious life.
The event will take place on September 5th at 1 p.m. at the Švėkšna synagogue (Liepų a. 12, Švėkšna).
This year’s theme for Jewish Culture Days is LOVE.
“Love for architecture. Love for traditions. Love for heritage. Love has many forms – some are yet to be discovered. This year, love for the Švėkšna synagogue opens a new chapter in its history. The building is gradually coming to life, becoming more beautiful, and will soon open its doors to visitors,” the organizers announce.
