Recent heavy rainfall and difficult weather conditions have significantly complicated the situation in many parts of the country. Due to high soil moisture, heavy machinery cannot enter the fields everywhere, and the cut grass dries very slowly.
“We fully understand that nature dictates its conditions, and farmers are currently facing serious challenges. By granting an additional two weeks, we reduce the administrative burden and provide farmers with the opportunity to complete their work properly,” says Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Mažeika.
Who is the extended deadline applied to?
The extended mowing and grazing deadline applies to applications submitted in 2026. It is valid when managing meadows and herbaceous nitrogen-fixing plants on arable land, as well as fulfilling the commitments of these ecological schemes:

- “Management of orchards and berry plantations in an environmentally friendly way”;
- “Maintenance of landscape elements”;
- “Conversion of arable peatlands to meadows”;
- “Conversion of eroded land to meadows”;
- “Comprehensive meadow and wetland maintenance scheme”;
- “Conversion of arable land to meadows, their maintenance and care.”
The extended deadline also applies to mowing landscape elements: fallows, buffer strips, shores of surface water bodies, ditches, as well as areas under individual trees and shrubs, or their groups.
According to general rules, all these areas had to be mowed or grazed at least once no later than September 1, but this year the final deadline has been postponed to September 15 (inclusive).
