Pasta water against weeds
This homemade remedy against weeds and moss is pasta cooking water. According to experts, it should simply be poured onto the overgrown paving stones. It is important that the water is still very hot – ideally above 90 degrees Celsius.
How does pasta water affect weeds?
When cooking pasta, starch is released into the water. When such water gets on moss, the starch clogs its pores. In addition, hot pasta water burns the above-ground parts of the plant. After some time, the weeds wither.
However, experts advise later removing the moss from the gaps by hand. This will reduce the chance that the plant will grow back.
Pasta water for watering
Pasta water contains not only starch but also minerals. Therefore, this liquid can also be suitable for watering plants. However, use it only occasionally, as the salt content can harm plants.
How to store pasta water?
If you do not want to use pasta water immediately for weed control or watering, it can be saved for later. Immediately after cooking, pour the liquid into airtight jars and keep it in the refrigerator. Such water should be used for watering flowers within a week.
Another option is to freeze pasta water in ice cube trays and use it as needed. By the way, cooled pasta water changes consistency – it becomes thicker. But this is not a problem: it still remains suitable for use.
