According to analysts, the past month was completely unsuccessful for the Russian military – the “worst growth of occupied territory since October 2023, when the enemy began a strategic offensive operation on most front lines,” was recorded.
“In May, the enemy occupied only 14 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory. It is important to understand that for security reasons, the achievements of the Ukrainian defense forces are shown with a delay, so without specific details, we can say that this is the first month in the past year since the 2023 counteroffensive when the growth of occupied territories by the occupiers became negative,” the report states.
At the same time, analysts note that the war is entering a new phase, so it is extremely important for Ukraine not to lose the initiative.

However, there is no significant result because the Russian army continues to degrade at the tactical level. We constantly receive videos in which the occupiers assault in pairs at best, and very often a Russian soldier attacks completely alone. However, before reaching the positions, he is destroyed,” the report states.
Moreover, the enemy’s infiltration tactics continue, but the Ukrainian defense forces’ response to such attempts has greatly improved. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the occupiers to establish themselves or concentrate forces in new locations.
“Unfortunately, the situation near Kostiantynivka remains problematic, and the city’s prospects are not optimistic for now,” analysts note.
As previously reported by UNIAN, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently stated that since the beginning of 2026, the Ukrainian defense forces have liberated 590 square kilometers of territory.
