The issue of synthetic video (deepfake) content on Meta-owned social media platforms once again garnered media attention this week after a fake video reportedly began circulating on Facebook, using an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated image of Polish President Karol Nawrocki to promote a fraudulent investment scheme.

K. Gawkowski stated that the tech giant profits from such content.

“Someone uses another person’s image for fraud, Meta displays the advertisement, profits from it, and tries to shift responsibility to an anonymous advertiser,” the minister said.

Meta has long maintained that it removes false advertisements from its platforms when it becomes aware of them and cooperates with local authorities in combating fraudsters.
