Brazilian diver Ingrid Oliveira attracted a lot of attention during the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

At the time, there was a lot of talk about the situation where I. Oliveira asked her duet partner to leave their room in the Olympic Village.
It soon became clear that I. Oliveira had done this for sex with Brazilian rower Pepe Goncalves. It was claimed that their sex marathon lasted all night, and the story echoed throughout the sports world.
The performance of the Brazilian divers from the 10m platform after their night’s adventure was not successful – they finished last, even though a year earlier they had won silver at the Pan American Games in Toronto.
I. Oliveira was so angry with her sports partner for talking that she refused to dive together. So the women continued their sporting careers in individual diving competitions.
I. Oliveira won the South American Championship and finished fourth at the World Championships, which were the best results in Brazilian diving history from the 10m platform.
I. Oliveira also competed in individual events at the Tokyo and Paris Olympic Games.
G. Pedroso did not achieve such success in individual competitions, but eventually forgave I. Oliveira. The pair reunited as a duet and represented the country at the 2023 Pan American Games. There, the Brazilians won bronze medals.
“It’s not just a medal. It’s a sign that we’re back together,” I. Oliveira told UOL after the Games.
The athletes stated that they had sorted everything out between themselves.
“Many losers expressed their opinions about things they knew absolutely nothing about. This had a big impact on our relationship,” said G. Pedroso.
According to the divers, the Olympic scandal snowballed, and many things spread into the mud.
“When we sat down to talk, what Giovanna said sounded much more reasoned than what others had been telling me for years,” said I. Oliveira.
The athletes said that their young age also played a big role then. In 2016, G. Pedroso was only seventeen, and I. Oliveira was nineteen.
Now they are more mature, and G. Pedroso has become a mother in the meantime.
Last year, I. Oliveira and G. Pedroso competed together again, representing Brazil at the World Championships. In the synchronized 10m platform duet competition, they finished 13th.
