The states claim that “Meta” violated state and federal laws, although the exact charges vary depending on the state.
If “Meta” loses the case, the states could seek about $200 billion (approximately €171 billion) in fines and force the tech company to change its products.
“Meta Platforms Inc.” and the state attorneys general have discussed a possible settlement during the court proceedings,” Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
California, Colorado, New Jersey, and Kentucky are leading the prosecution of “Meta” in court in Oakland, very close to San Francisco.
Several state attorneys general sent out media statements Tuesday evening announcing press conferences on Wednesday regarding reports related to consumer protection and technology.
Colorado stated that it will soon announce important news about this case.
Nevada, which is not participating in the California court case, announced that it will announce a “settlement” with a “leading technology company” on Wednesday.

“Meta” and representatives of California Attorney General Rob Bonta have not yet responded to requests for comment.
On Tuesday, as the trial entered its second week, Instagram head Adam Mosseri testified.
Mosseri admitted that he praised safety tools for teenagers without disclosing their low usage rates during early trials several years ago.
Other witnesses last week showed that “Meta” knew these tools were ineffective and were even “designed not to work.”
It is expected that at some point, “Meta” founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will also testify.
