„If we only consider the number of customers left without electricity announced by ESO, then we get the following result: at the end of July 2024, about 160 thousand were left without electricity, and this year due to the storm – even about 268 thousand customers (i.e. 1.7 times more).
If we only consider the amount of precipitation, then the storm on July 28-29, 2024 was wetter. In many places, more precipitation was measured than this year, and in Telšiai, Šiauliai, and Laukuva, more than 100 mm of rain fell then (1.2-1.4 months’ norm). This year, the wettest was Šilutė, where 82.5 mm was measured in less than one day.

If we only consider the strength of the maximum measured wind gusts, then this year’s storm was windier and covered a larger area of the country. Even deep inland, wind gusts reached at least 24-28 m/s (individual stations showed gusts up to 29-31 m/s). Meanwhile, two years ago, wind gusts reaching 24-28 m/s covered a smaller area of the country.
So, at least according to the available concise information, this year’s storm (preliminarily) was stronger and caused damage to a larger area of the country“, concludes G.Valaika.
