The Ministry does not support Gintarė Skaistė's proposal to exempt child birth benefits from taxation

These amendments to the Personal Income Tax Law were prepared by former Minister of Finance, Member of Parliament and conservative Gintarė Skaistė. She proposes not to tax the allowance portion that does not exceed the average monthly wage of the past three years.

According to the ministry’s preliminary assessment, if the amendments are adopted, the revenues of the state and municipal budgets from this tax would decrease by up to 7.6 million euros per year. Moreover, financial and tax measures currently applied to families raising children already exist, so the new measure would not meet the principle of legislative efficiency.
