After cutting open one of the cakes, a plastic bag with dried cannabis was found inside. Drugs were also found in other cakes. The total weight of the sweets shipment was about 5 kg, and the cannabis “filling” in them amounted to about 0.5 kg.

The shipment was seized, and after Customs Laboratory specialists officially confirmed that it was indeed drugs, a pre-trial investigation into drug smuggling was initiated by the Customs Criminal Service. The investigation is led by prosecutors from the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office.
During the investigation, officers managed to identify two suspects, one of whom is suspected of organizing, and the other of collaborating in organizing drug smuggling.
In June, customs criminal officers detained both individuals. The Ukrainian citizen detained in Vilnius actively resisted, so officers had to use self-defense actions and special means (gas and handcuffs). The second suspect, a Belarusian citizen, was detained in Kupiškis.
During searches, a large quantity of narcotic and psychotropic substances was found at both suspects’ residences: cannabis seeds, crystalline methamphetamine (so-called “ice”), ecstasy tablets, and 3 cannabis seedlings in pots.

Packing and packaging materials were also found, special plastic bags with magnets designed to quickly attach drugs to metal surfaces. Two pneumatic guns were also found.
Both detainees were placed in the detention facility of the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat.
Later, the Belarusian citizen was released after questioning, with preventive measures imposed – a written promise not to leave and confiscation of documents. The Ukrainian citizen was detained for three months by decision of the Vilnius District Court.
The Customs Criminal Service continues the pre-trial investigation under three articles of the Criminal Code: Article 260¹, Part 4 (drug smuggling), Article 259, Part 1 (illegal possession of drugs without intent to distribute), and Article 286 (resistance to an officer).
