On the social network “Instagram,” a lifeguard posted a video capturing a confrontation with three individuals who ignored all safety requirements.
When asked if they saw the warning flag, the vacationers decided to respond with irony – claiming they “did not understand” what it meant.
When asked to read the information board, they started pretending that they “could not read.”
K. Pirožnikas did not back down and reminded that according to Lithuanian law, fines ranging from 100 to 300 euros may be imposed for rule violations.
However, this did not stop the vacationers – they started arguing, pointing to other people around who were also breaking the rules.
Still, what shocked the lifeguards the most was the cynical response to the reminder that in case of an accident, it is the lifeguards who will have to risk their lives.
“We are not asking you to save us,” said one of the vacationers bluntly.
“In this video, three people are swimming in deep water, ignoring the red flag, right in front of the prohibition sign. Upon approaching, it turned out that even by the sign, which clearly states that swimming with a red flag is strictly prohibited, excuses were being sought – ‘I can’t read’ and the like.
Possibly the smell of alcohol made the situation even more difficult.
Such unnecessary arguments, denials, and conscious disregard of the rules not only endanger the person themselves. They waste the lifeguards’ time and attention. And in case of an accident, every second and every minute can be crucial.
Lifeguards are there to save people, not to argue with those who consciously choose to take risks. Therefore, such denials greatly complicate our already difficult work.
Be more conscious. Respect the warnings, the lifeguards’ work, and, most importantly, your own and others’ lives. And the life of this person and their partner – saved. Although the citizens were dissatisfied – they left the beach,” K. Pirožnikas wrote in the post.
