The majority of those infected were under 18 years old, and most cases were found in unvaccinated individuals.

“Measles outbreaks are rare. Measles vaccination is included in the national childhood vaccination program, and the vaccination rate is about 95 percent,” the health agency said in a statement.

It added that regional health officials are conducting contact tracing to limit the spread.

Measles causes fever, respiratory symptoms, and skin rashes.

In some cases, this disease can also cause more severe complications, including pneumonia and encephalitis, which can have serious long-term consequences or result in death.
