The press officer of the Russian national biathlon organization, Sergei Averyanov, said that Moscow wanted the suspension issue to be discussed at the IBU congress in Germany on September 17.
“However, as two years ago, these issues are not planned to be considered at the congress,” wrote S. Averyanov.
“The IBU’s position is that the conditions that formed the basis for suspending Russian athletes in 2022 have not yet been removed, so they do not intend to review their previous decision,” he said.
The IBU itself has not yet issued any statements regarding the extension of the ban.
Due to the IBU’s decision to maintain the ban, biathlon stands out from many sports that, following the IOC’s example, have again allowed Russians and Belarusians to compete.

After the IOC’s decision, handball, volleyball, modern pentathlon, table tennis, boxing, and car and motorcycle sports organizations lifted their bans.
In response to the IOC decision, the European Union (EU) is considering what retaliatory measures to take.
Nine EU member states sent a letter requesting that all organizations that have eased sanctions on Russian and Belarusian athletes be deprived of EU funding.
