These changes are planned due to the capital repair works of the contact network, aimed at ensuring smoother journeys on one of the busiest railway sections in the country.
Considering the planned restrictions, trains on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius route will run less frequently than usual, but passengers will still be provided with convenient travel conditions – 30 trips will run daily in both directions. In addition, some of them will be operated with higher capacity trains, allowing more passengers to travel on a single trip.
“The Vilnius–Kaunas direction is one of the busiest in Lithuania, so consistent infrastructure renewal is necessary to ensure reliable and punctual journeys. Although temporary schedule changes and a bit more patience will be required during the works period, these upgrades are an investment in even more comfortable, safer, and more reliable travel in the future,” says Kristina Meidė, head of “LTG Link.”
The main upgrade works will be carried out on the Lentvaris–Vievis section and will take place in two stages during pre-planned traffic breaks. To ensure traffic continuity, the works are planned gradually: one railway track will be closed in September, and the other in October. During the repair, 5 km of contact wire, 10 km of supporting cable will be replaced, fastening elements, supports, and other structural elements will be renewed.
