“We finished our performance in the tournament but still did not find our clear identity. We also faced minor problems with injuries and illnesses during the tournament. This Lithuanian team has another peculiarity – there are many young players in the team – some water polo players are 3-4 years younger than the allowed age limit. It is very difficult to play in the U20 championship because here you compete against adults. We compete not against boys, but against men,” said Lithuanian team coach I. Martinović.
The coach does not hide that he also saw positive signs in Portugal. The most important thing is to learn from mistakes and use the gained experience for further improvement.
“We had successful moments, there were painful ones too, but I think we can take it as a lesson. We must continue working with this team. We have to work even harder and believe in ourselves,” emphasized I. Martinović, thanking all the fans and players’ families for their support throughout the tournament.
In the tournament final, the neutral athletes’ B team defeated Israel 13:9. In the match for 3rd place, Poland beat Belgium 17:15 after a penalty shootout.
