At the end of last year, the competition announced by the Klaipėda municipality was won by the Vilnius architecture and design services company “DO Architects” and the small partnership “Urban form” – their joint project “KLP2050” was rated the best.

“This development idea best met the design tasks set out in the competition and the architectural quality criteria established in the legislation.

Also, the solutions of the winning project best matched the vision of integrating the competition area into the Klaipėda cityscape and the vision of qualitative change in Klaipėda, bringing the city closer to the Curonian Lagoon, which in the future will function as an added value not only for the competition area but also for the entire city of Klaipėda and its residents,” the Klaipėda municipality stated in a press release issued on August 17.

Now the municipality will negotiate with the winner regarding the preparation of the local master plan service.

Besides the winners, the competition also included the small partnerships “Architektė” and “Pupa – strategic urbanism” with the company “Formatas A1”.

All submitted ideas were presented to the public in May, and people could submit comments on them.

The Stariškiai quarter is an area of about 100 hectares bordering the Curonian Lagoon, the King Wilhelm Canal, and Kairiai Street along the Klaipėda port.

This place is intended to be arranged so that residents of the southern part of the city have the opportunity to relax by the water, but without having to travel to the other end of the city – to the sea.
