He should replace Gediminas Latvys, whose term has ended.
“The professional experience and competencies accumulated by Lieutenant Colonel M. Matukonis would create the conditions to strengthen the activities of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union, improve its legal and organizational foundations, ensure the effective implementation of tasks set by state institutions, and contribute to society’s preparedness for national defense,” the minister’s proposal states.
The term of the deputy head of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union lasts three years.
The head of the LRS, Colonel Linas Idzelis, currently has two deputies – Laimonas Vaškis and Dovidas Jonušas.
The decision on the appointment of M. Matukonis will have to be made by the Government.
The LRS is a voluntary militarized civic organization whose goal is to strengthen the state’s defense capacity and foster citizenship.
