Moreover, in this century, this feat has only been achieved by tennis legends – Andy Murray (2009-10), Novak Djokovic (2011-12), and Rafael Nadal (2018-19).
The 23-year-old tennis player’s march to the championship title in Montreal was marked by winning all 12 sets, a feat recorded in Canadian Masters tournaments since 1990 only by Pat Rafter (1998) and Novak Djokovic (2016). Interestingly, these players also triumphed at the US Open in the same years, where Shelton will also seek to make noise.
“I couldn’t be happier than I am now. The way I moved around the court, the shots I made, how I served and received serves… I played very versatilely. I am extremely satisfied with my performances,” the champion said at the press conference.
